Why some people prefer hand-poke tattoos?

Hand-poke tattoos have become increasingly popular, and many clients choose this method for a variety of reasons. Unlike traditional machine tattoos, hand poke uses a manual technique to gently deposit ink into the skin — and this creates a very different experience.

We currently have two artists who specialise in hand-poke tattoos:

If you’re interested in this style, feel free to contact them directly — they’ll be happy to chat and help bring your idea to life.

1. A calmer, less intimidating process

Because there’s no machine noise or vibration, hand poke feels quieter and less overwhelming. Many people find the experience more relaxing and less scary, especially if they are new to tattooing.

2. A softer, more delicate look

Hand poke naturally creates a fine, subtle finish. The technique allows for gentle dot-by-dot control, which can result in soft, detailed and minimalistic designs that some clients prefer.

3. A mindful or therapeutic feeling

The slow and intentional nature of hand poke often feels grounding. Some clients describe it as meditative — almost like a form of emotional or spiritual therapy rather than just a tattoo session.

4. Great for small or tricky areas

For tiny placements such as fingers, ears or small gaps, hand poke can offer more precision.

While no tattoo on hands or fingers is fully “long-lasting” (these areas fade faster for everyone), hand poke can sometimes heal a bit gentler because it’s less traumatic to the skin.
